We stopped in at the nest in the Crosslake market square while on our trip to Next Chapter Retreat to learn all about these amazing birds. Their mission is to restore and protect loon breeding habitats, enhance responsible recreation, and serve as a national leader in advancing loon and freshwater research and education. The Center is set to open in 2024, visitors will enjoy hands-on, experiential learning, floating classrooms and freshwater testing as well as beautifully curated displays and areas to enjoy nature’s ecosystems. The gorgeous wooden carvings and the map were my favorite part you can see all the spots they have banded the loons to collect analytics and see what the bands mean. We have seen these birds all over Minnesota and have fallen in love with how they play and how inquisitive they are. They often come within feet of our boat, and we love talking to them. Definitely an all-around Minnesota experience.
